About
I am an Australian artist captivated by the delicate and intricate nature of copper wire. My journey into this mesmerising medium was unexpected but deeply resonant - a practice that is both repetitive and detailed, yet endlessly rewarding.
It all began with a moment of discovery. While living in the USA and undertaking a course in Museum & Art Gallery Studies, I stumbled upon a collection of breathtaking sculptural artworks at the de Young Museum. The complexity and beauty of these woven wire forms were unlike anything I had seen before. How could such an ordinary material be transformed into something so ethereal? That was the moment I discovered the extraordinary work of Ruth Asawa.
Inspired, I embarked on my own exploration—learning to manipulate wire, experimenting with techniques, and weaving each piece by hand. Slowly, my own sculptural forms began to emerge, each one a labor of love.
Though painting, drawing, and contemporary mixed media have always played a role in my artistic journey, this hands-on process of weaving copper wire into organic, flowing forms has become my true passion. Continuing in the spirit of Asawa’s pioneering work, I strive to create sculptures that are not only visually compelling, but also evoke a sense of wonder and joy.
